13 Sentinels though, holds a very special place in my heart. Games like Discworld and Broken Sword always eluded me, as they were too slow and the payoff never seemed to be there for me no matter how many hours I tried to pour into it. I don't usually waste my time too much with primarily narrative games. Wow, where to begin? This game took me for an insane ride. Our playthrough was probably about 6 to 8 hours, but you can extend the game for a longer time by dating everyone to the point of maxing out their abilities/stats. Pick it up if you're even a little bit curious and looking to date your weapons to unlock skills and have a good time. There were a few girls and even a non-binary person, which was pretty dope. The game itself is fun! Lots of characters to date (9 of them) and one of them is even a cat! Something else that also surprised me was that the game was populated with more than just boys to date. This is sort of a Westworld/Palm Springs sort of situation, and it shows a lot about the kind of person you are.īut enough about that sort of ideological question. While my GF wanted to instigate situations in order to discover more of the dialogue, I personally played the game more similarly to how I would handle those sort of situations in real life.

Me and my girlfriend did have sort of an argument with how to handle his character in our playthrough. I feel really bad for him, and kinda disappointed with people. He's just a voice actor, and the villain he portrays has no bearing on the kind of person that he is. Obviously, nothing could be further from the truth. Some fans of the game even went so far as to shame the voice actor who portrays him, telling him that he's a bad person for doing this sort of work. Apparently, a lot of people were triggered with the way the game sets up its stalker antagonist. There is a bit of "controversy" when it comes to the villain of the game. Apparently, a lot of people were triggered with the way the game sets up … More I played the game primarily with my girlfriend and we had a lot of fun geeking out over the characters. I can tell the game was made with a lot of love. The people are charming and the voice acting makes the characters really spring to life. Some weapons are faster than others, and offer different effects when it comes to stun, critical, confusion, burning damage, etc. The game plays well! The dungeon elements are charming and wonderful, and the way many weapons play out in the dungeon are fun and diverse enough to offer real significant changes in playstyle. But having your answers be vague and ambiguous in meaning is not something that happens in real life. I guess, the same can be true of real people.

I guess I need more solid gameplay elements instead of JUST a dating sim, so I felt right at home playing Boyfriend Dungeon.įirstly, I'd say that the game suffers from pretty much all dating sim problems. Feel the Magic X/Y and Rub Rabbits were one of my favorite titles in the DS era, and one of the first games I bought and enjoyed on the PS1 was Thousand Arms, though I could not get into Kawato Shoujo, even though I was very excited about it when the art surfaced on 4chan before the game was even made. I had been waiting for this title to come out for a long while.
